- Since Hitomi’s father loved Eric Clapton and Maryvin Gaye, Hitomi grew up, listening to their music.
- When in middle school, Hitomi wanted to be a hip hop dancer so started to take dance lessons after school.
- In middle school, Hitomi was initially in a school Softball club. However, as she grew her love towards dancing, she wanted to spare more of her spare time towards practicing her dance, she left Softball club and joined Kendo (a Japanese martial art) club, which had less required hours of training and practicing at school.
- When Hitomi was born, her parents thought she had big eyes, therefore they named her Hitomi (meaning “Eyes” in Japanese).
- As Hitomi was told by her dance teacher that she should also try to sing as it would better her dancing ability by being able to understanding the music better, she started to sing at the age of 13.
- As Hitomi began singing, she came across songs by Ringo Sheena (Shiina) and started to grow her love towards singing.
- One year later in 2004, Hitomi applied for SONY Music Audition at the age of 14 and was chosen to be one of the finalists among more than 20,000 applicants.
- In 2005, Hitomi debuted as a singer, releasing her first single, “Bokutachi no Yukue”.
